May 31, 2011

On Tuesday, May 31st, Squad 1 was dispatched for a reported overturned charter bus on interstate 95. Squad 1 arrived to find a bus on its roof, multiple patients, and several entrapped inside the bus. Before the Squad's arrival Hanover Battalion Chief 3 arrived and requested the Regional TRT team along with 2 squads from Hanover County due to not knowing how many passengers were trapped. The crew went to work stabilizing the vehicle in order to extricate the trapped passengers. To assist with stabilization the Squad's crew requested the local heavy duty wrecker service. Once the bus was secured, Squad 1 and Hanover crews worked together to remove two patients from the bus. Once the patients were extricated, Squad 1's crew assisted with the recovery efforts of the 4 fatalities. 52 passengers were transported to area hospitals.
